About the Artist

Born 1967, USA
George Schroeder, the founder, owner and director of Schroeder Art Studios, is a native Texas artist, maintaining a working studio in San Antonio, Texas. The artist has operated the same studio in San Antonio for over 20 years; creating mid-size to monumental sculptures, paintings and large scale drawings.

Schroeder studied marketing, visual art and business management at The University of North Texas, receiving a BBA with a minor in marketing. After spending several years in the corporate world and working nights creating sculptures, George decided to open a full time sculpture studio. The artist's combination of skills from the business world, combined with artistic talent, provides a unique situation for his studio environment. This has enabled the artist to build seamless relationships with municipal public art organizations, museums, galleries, architectural firms, corporate art collectors, education institutions and private collectors; all of which have commissioned or purchased works from Schroeder.

In 2010, Schroeder was selected to create an outdoor sculpture for the Aborg International Sculpture Park in southwest Iceland. The artwork will be the inaugural sculpture for the park grand opening in Summer 2017. Other recent events include a major commission for The University Health System in San Antonio; a stand alone monumental sculpture designed to engage the public, as they travel to and from the hospital. George continues to focus on providing his services and skills as a contribution to the built environment, to represent public art at the highest level; not only as a solo artist, but also as a collaborative artist.

“The metal is only hot for so long,” he explained. “You only have a moment, so you go into this hyper-accelerated decision making – you have to be thinking about the next shape before you even do it to make it all fit together. All the layering you see, it all had to be ‘decided’ on the spot."

“All 8,000 pounds of those gates have been baptized in fire, hammering, cutting, twisting, and water. It’s quite a transition from how it started and has a lot of energy. I wanted them to be timeless.”
